Dennis That should be an interesting talk.
I have observed that new graduates and younger geophysicists are more interested in knowing what button to press in what software than understanding the fundamentals of geology, physics, geophysics, mathematics, etc. The most sophisticated software or any AI / ML platform is useless, when those fundamentals are not understood. Not long ago, a Geophysics student in his last year of university did not know what was a magnetic inclination or magnetic latitude. It was also some years ago that a recent graduate in Geophysics told me that MT was not a EM technique. He said that "MT is MT, and EM is EM, two different things". I have more recent examples. You might recall those topics. I know an Australian Geoscience Prof, now VP at a major company, who complains about the lack of Philosophy training during university education.
