Dear Colleagues
I knew Jeff since the 1980s but it was during the second half of the 1990s when my employer BHP was undertaking a number of technology initiatives that I traveled to Ottawa regularly and would have the chance to catch up with Jeff. One such visit was in the winter and Jeff was ‘assigned’ to pick me up at the airport and take me to the Geoterrex office. I recall Jeff was driving what I recall was a very nice BMW. We were chatting about winter driving and the effects of salt on cars and Jeff said basically this was not a big issue for him as the BMW was his ‘winter car’. Being quick with a retort (& since I drove a Honda Civic Hatchback), I said “well I guess your summer car is a Ferrari?” Jeff replied, ‘”your are right, I actually have two of them”. Boy, did I feel like a dumb bunny…but then Jeff explained one was a ‘working’ car and one an investment and then it all made perfect sense. 😊 I recall that he might of actually held a third Ferrari at some point. From that point forward I could honestly say I knew someone who owned a Ferrari and they were one of the nicest people I knew. On that front, the BHP-Geoterrex relationship was not always easy and I knew I could reach out to Jeff about issues where I needed ‘wise council’. Those sorts of people are very rare and extremely valuable. Jeff will be missed. Best regards/Ken Geophysics is often of the greatest value for the questions it raises than the answers it provides.
