Dear Colleagues
I regret to pass along news of Dutch Van Blaircom's passing on Dec 30th.
Dutch was a long term member of the Spokane mining community, employee of
Cominco America as Chief Geophysicist and strong supporter of the NorthWest
Mining Association. He and Cominco colleague Louis O'Connor co-authored the
seminal paper on the Red Dog deposit given at Exploration '87. Dutch was
also the driving force behind the excellent Practical Geophysics series that
came out in the late 1990s.
On behalf of the SEGMIN community, I extend our deepest condolences to
Dutch's family, friends and colleagues.

Oh my goodness.
Maybe SEGMIN should stop for a month or two..
Dutch was a class guy. As a younger geophysicist, I had the opportunity to
work with/for him on an airborne project in Alaska... It was refreshing to
get some praise for work well done in the field and later to hear he passed
it on ...
Having some pats on the back go along ways as we work our way along the
trail, following in Dutch's steps, I have always made a point to encourage
the young folk and pass on appropriate accolades... I hope we all do... it
gets remembered!
