Teams participating in the ICSA National Championships,
Please remember there are ICSA restrictions for practicing near the site of championships. The ICSA National Championship General Conditions state, "Once a team has qualified for a National Championship, members of that team shall not sail at the site to be used for the event, unless that site is their college team's home waters or there is a previously scheduled ICSA regatta. Violation of this condition shall be cause for disqualification of the team from the event." I have received numerous inquiries as to where one can or cannot sail. I will interpret this rule in the following manner: Team members, who maybe competing in the championships, may not sail within .75nm of the # '2' channel marker at the northern tip of Fort Adams. This applies to any sailboat. A team member may transit this area for regularly scheduled local races provided the racing does not take place in the within the limited area, and the sailing is not in a racing dinghy. Further more, team members may sail collegiate dinghies north of the Newport Bridge and outside of the stated limitation area provided they do not launch from Newport (NYCC, Newport YC, Ida Lewis YC, Sail Newport). The following exceptions will apply: Team members may participate in a US Sailing instructor training course taking place in the sailing site. Also these waters will be considered the home waters of Brown University. There may be additional, individual exceptions, such as employment obligations. Please contact me directly.
