I've only just noticed this thread, so sorry for the late reply. This is
certainly an issue I've had to address, too. Although part of me still
feels that having both User and Person pages, it's still the case that
that's the route that I've taken. The chief reason for this is that there
was always going to be a requirement for People pages that represent
non-Wiki users. Thus, I had little choice but to go with both.
What I do try to do, though, is make a differentiation between recommended
page usage. Our Person pages, heavily form driven, are there for other
people's reference and include personal and technical information that can
be used by other pages. They also include reports that pull relevant
information from other pages. For the User pages, however, I tend to
recommend them as a personal directory/reference page, for use (probably)
only by the relevant user. I don't use a form for the user pages, nor do
intend to in the future. Our users have never really embraced the My Talk
function, so there tends to be little reason why anyone would seek out
another users page.
