Hi, twistedjuggler,
As someone who's been involved with juggling for more than 20 years (look me up on JTV) and who's also been involved in creating 4 separate SMW systems, I was naturally curious to chance upon this thread. Whilst the idea of creating a semantic wiki of juggling tricks seems an interesting one, the description you've given of what you're actually planning to do makes me wonder whether your plans and expectations for the system are somewhat flawed. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't understand why you'd ever want to create a system that had, say, separate pages for a 3-ball, 4-ball and 5-ball shower and then, in addition to that, further pages still for a 3-club, 4-club and 5-club shower. I assume that this would mean that if someone wanted to post something about doing a shower with 3 rubber chickens, they'd have to create a page about that too? Surely, this is both unworkable and pointless. Why not just have a page about showers in general? Also, have you considered what you'd do about siteswaps that don't have common associated names - would you include the siteswap number in the page? If so, wouldn't that suddenly make your page naming scheme confusing, with some pages using siteswap notation and others not? Or, in fact, what would your policy be on siteswaps in general - surely you're not intending to create a separate page for every theoretical siteswap number (there are 1000s) and then duplicate those for every different type of prop? The implications of that aren't even worth thinking about. Might I suggest re-evaluating what you're really wanting to achieve from such a system, perhaps by speaking with other jugglers to see if they consider your ideas to be practical, useful and realistic. Remember that a wiki is a collaborative tool and thus, for it to be workable, you've got to make it usable by others. Personally, if I came accross a wiki with a page system as complex and fine-grained as you're suggesting, I'd turn it off immediately. Sorry to be so negative, but I really suspect that you're going to be wasting your time if you continue on the path suggest at.
