Exactly. Indeed I had to implement the entire template in French, so that it would annotate French-language versions of all my properties. (And some of those properties required French-language versions of my custom types!) And as you saw, I made every effort to provide French-language parameter names for use by any French-speaking editors. And of course a French speaker would find working with English names more difficult. English is the worst language ever invented for having to learn it as a second language. I find gaining facility in French myself far easier. > It still might be possible to address these issues and make > Template:Planet work in multiple languages so the wiki text of the > infobox can be copied and pasted between them. If I understand you correctly, that would require knowledge of the language code. Does MediaWiki have a standard variable for the language code? if so, how is that variable named? > >> I also linked every type and property in French to its equivalent >> type or property in English, using Interwiki-style language links. > > If one does this for many pages on your wiki, then it permits the > auto-translation of facts. Which is why I am still running SMW 1.0, one "minor release" behind. Does SMW 1.0.1 have Mr. Vrandecic's changes to Special:Browse?
