Hi Amruta, I don't have an answer for your problem in doing a local install of PDL on your linux machine, but I did notice that there is lots of discussion of this type of problem on Google groups, especially comp.lang.perl.*
If you do a search for MCPAN missing separator You get lots of hits. Maybe there is some wisdom to be found there. Also, in general you might find the following to be helpful: perldoc CPAN and perl -MCPAN -e shell >help These will give some explanation of how perl -MCPAN works, and what are some of the other things you can do with it.
