Just double clutch.
The last winter I had my 91, before it went to that big junkyard in the
sky, double clutching was the only way I could shift into second without it
sounding like I had accidentally caught reverse. Old transmissions have
trouble with the synchro's and cold weather just exacerbates the problem by
thickening the oil.
