-Is there anybody out there that would agree with me that we should not
introduce another noise-inducing unit to the system, unless the system works
perfectly.
Why use an EQ if the system is perfect? You use a EQ because the system is
IMPERFECT!
Anyways... Its probably impossible to achieve that perfection inside a car.
The noise/distortion DSPs,EQs and other signal processors can add is the
least of your problems. I think you could get pretty close with good system
design and careful driver placement but not close enough. DSPs,EQs could
compensate for the shortcomings.
Anytime you amplify a signal, attenuate it or even route cable you introduce
noise and distortion. Theres no getting away from that, especially in a car.
What little noise or distortion quality electronic components can add is
pretty insignificant I think. Others may disagree..... I'm not sure the
human ear can even detect such subtle changes that are introduced by high
quality electronics. Maybe a 12dB SINAD meter could pick it up but you arn't
a machine.
People make such a big ass deal about the low THD ratings on their
amplifiers but what does it matter when most speakers can add much more
distortion to the music nevermind the interior of the car.
I think what I'm trying to say in this rant is trust your ears, not the
manufacturer spec sheet or the brand name. What looks good on paper doesn't
always sound good to the human ear. I could probably take a speaker from a
very good manufacturer, slap a Pyramid sticker on and it people may say it
sounds like crap because its from Pyramid.
I'll stop now before I get waaay off track.
