Well Joe,
I can tell you how much the two estimates were that I just got for damage
(my initial thought was "minor") incurred in an accident last Thursday to my
rear bumper, rear panel, trunk lid, and trunk floor: $2300 from one shop,
and $2400 from a second. The other person's insurance adjuster came by
yesterday and took a look, and he gave me an estimate of $1400 (cheap
bastards). So, hopefully I can get the $2400 worth of repairs done, but it
might take some haggling.
They will probably have to replace the whole bumper cover - IMHO it's not
worth repairing plastic. The *real* bumper parts themselves are probably
shot, so those will have to be replaced. Hopefully there isn't any frame
damage, or possibly damage to the inside of the engine compartment. Check
the rest of your car for any "rippling" or "accordion" effects too. Then
you have the paint labor and supplies. Lights, bulbs, wiring, fasteners,
other materials. Unfortunately, it all adds up and the insurance company
will try to skimp.
Hope this helps in roughly estimating your damage.
