We are going live in two weeks.
We have built a sepsis screening tool into epic- but it doesn't pull the VS.
We have also built a note- which does pull VS and pertinent information from
the flowsheets and labs.
In our optimization phase, I hope to build a BPA that will trigger the RN or MD
to screen for sepsis if they have an elevated lactate and 2+ SIRS signs.
At this point, it is not linked to an order set- but we do have an ED order set
and an inpatient order set built- our inpatient order set does link to the
guidelines.
We have paper screening tools which will continue to be used during the
transition until we can fine tune the electronic workflow.
All of that said, I haven't even seen Epic in action yet, but this is where we
are starting.
I would love to hear what others are doing so that we can incorporate anything
that works well into our system as we move forward!

Subject: [Sepsis Groups] EPIC facilities and ED Sepsis

Hello,

This question is for Epic hospitals. I was wondering if any you have a
validated and reliable Epic built solution for early recognition of sepsis in
the ED. We are open to any solution that is Epic-based. We want a solution that
pulls the data (vitals, complaint, labs) and alerts of a sepsis risk and
allows the staff to easily use the sepsis protocol (a direct link to an
orderset). We are open to any other ideas as well. Your feedback would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
