Alecia,
We have incorporated the SIRS criteria and lactic acid into a MEWS tool
developed in the last year. The reliability, usability, and acceptability
results are being presented in Prague, Czech Republic this summer at the STTI
International Research Congress. In the Fall, we plan on rolling out the tool
being piloted and continue our research looking at outcomes. The premise that
the septic patient is at-risk for deterioration and that over 80% of our
cardiac resuscitative efforts are patients with sepsis led to the inclusion of
a dual screening/scoring of physiological and laboratory findings for
sepsis/deteriorating condition every four hours outside of our ICUs that leads
to the set algorithm directing care.

Subject: [Sepsis Groups] MEWS

Is anyone having the nurses or providers use MEWS score for patients with
sepsis/septic shock? If so, how did you implement?
