Amy, by "actual weight", do you mean the patient was weighed on some type of scale during their admission to the hospital? Just clarifying to make sure I understand your question.
I have found no language that specifies a patient's weight be that of one from an actual measurement taken on a scale while receiving treatment for severe sepsis/septic shock. See reference: In the SEP-1 measure, From 5.0b p 1-95 to 1-96 Data Element Name: Crystalloid Fluid Administration and >From 5.0b p 1-161 to 1-162 Data Element Name: Fluid Challenge Performed Janice Titano RN, MSN/MBA, CEN, CCRN Director of Clinical Services EmCare, Inc. 100 Witmer Road, Suite 220 Horsham, PA 19044 215-356-3665 [email protected] From: Sepsisgroups [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Cobb, Amy L. Do you wait until you have an actual weight on the patient to determine the 30ml/kg of IVF or do you use the estimated weight when the patient presents for severe or shock in the ED? If the patient presents on the floor/unit, do you take the actual weight closest to presentation time or do you still go back to the 1st actual "dry" weight? Thank you!!
