qSOFA is not part of the definition of Sepsis in Sepsis 3 but merely intended as a screen to prompt the clinician to investigate further for organ dysfunctions...I confirmed this with a email conversation with Dr Seymour who was one of the lead investigators in the JAMA 2016 Sepsis 3 article. RAC auditors are using Sepsis 3 criteria (SOFA Score of equal to or > 2) to define sepsis as of March 2016 for non traditional Medicare patients ( Medicare Advantange/ Complete and private insurance), but not for Traditional Medicare (FFS Medicare) Hope this helps William E.
