See if you can expose your block size ias a  config parameter somewhere.
If you can pick a nice default, but allow people to override it in config.

The reason I say this is that we've had, from time to time, people who's
average message is large (several Mb vs several Kb). Assuming they have the
RAM for it they might benefit from making James read larger blocks than
those of us who expect most mail to be a few k of text.
