Just run: build.[sh|bat] dist-bin which will build a binary distribution without xdocs or javadocs. Please do some testing. All I've had time to do is bring it up, see that it does come up, and telnet to the SMTP port. If this looks good, we can replace trunk with this for mainstream development.
