Not impossibile but unlikely.
I didn't use James 2.2.0 in the last year, but it should not be
different in charset handling operations (apart the javamail 8bitmime
support enabled in the remotedelivery of 2.3.0).
PS: there is a "DumpSystemErr" mailet that output the message body to
System.err . Maybe it helps in the debug process (I know we should
improve it and make it log more data).
