Here is what maven guys explained: http://www.nabble.com/Default-location-of-config-files-->-Maven-Standard-Directroy-Layo-ut--tf3466078s177.html#a9672316 Summarizing they say the config folder (src/main/config) in the Standard Directory Layout is for the *build* process configuration files, while configuration files that we want to include in the generated package have to be placed in the resources folder (src/main/resources). They also say they are aware of the lack of documentation about this specific behaviour.
