ATM JAMES allows developers to create third party plugins but does not
clearly indicate which APIs are subject to change

I just wanted to say that *all* of our upgrading users have a config.xml and stored mails to take care upgrading, while a minority have custom components (I would bet less than 10%, but this is just my personal guess).

That's why I think config.xml and storage compatibility should be a greater priority compared to API stability.
