Hi Dmitry,
The online documentation refers to beta3.
For beta4 snapshots, we moved the system files (spring, properties,...) to
META-INF/org/apache/james/ which is a subfolder of conf folder.
You can create there your database.properties, overriding
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/james/mailbox/trunk/spring/src/main/resources/META-INF/org/apache/james/database.properties
We will update the online documentation when releasing app beta4
