maven 4 is indeed not suitable for production yet.
however this is the 3rd release candidate, there were 10 alpha releases, 3 beta
releases and 2 RCs prior to this release.
there will be an RC-4 according to
[https://github.com/apache/maven/milestone/29]
I don't expect this issue to be closed shortly after the release but if I get
some time I intend to try and build james on the RC release. Checking the
upgrade notes there will probably be a need to upgrade some of the build
plugins to the latest version to have versions that work with both 3.x and 4.x
These changes can be tagged with this issue id so we keep track of why we
decided to upgrade at this time.
