http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-461, Norman just mentioned, is a wrapper for JavaMail based stores. It is intended to work with javamaildir, a Maildir implementation for JavaMail. At the moment there are a few compatibility issues, and there should be a suitable javamaildir release soon. (For the brave: everything needed is on my SVN) This solution still has to proof whether it is suitable for productive use. A native Maildir implementation for James won't be too complicated. If somebody would volunteer and do the coding and testing, I would support and share my knowledge.
