After cranking-up James, the number of physical files generated in the
/opt/james/james-2.2.0/apps/james/var/mail folders is excessive. The bulk
of the files are in the relay-denied folder:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 5805056 Apr 6 11:23 spool
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 38304768 Apr 6 11:23 relay-denied
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 71168 Apr 6 09:52 error
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 512 Apr 6 08:44 outgoing
drwxr-xr-x 3 root other 512 Aug 22 2006 inboxes
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 512 Aug 22 2006 address-error
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 512 Aug 22 2006 spam
This is causing some iNode problems on our box.
The James email server is working flawlessly, however, my box is about to
crash - it's logging files as fast as I can delete them. What configuration
change can I make so that these messages are not stored?
Change your config.xml processor relay-denied:
<processor name="relay-denied">
comment the ToRepository mailet and add a Null mailet so the message is
GHOSTED.
Btw it is weird that you have so much messages that are accepted by the
server but then they finish in relay-denied. This often happens because
of misconfiguration.
It is also weird that you have a very big spool: either you are
misconfigured or your getting hammered from much more mail than you can
handle.
