My opinion is that the documentation at http://james.apache.org/server/2.3.1/using_database.html where a dbfile impl is used for a spool is wrong. We probably need a JIRA issue to track this. I don't remember anymore the specific issue for dbfile and spools but I remember something about lost message bodies and I remember I investigated on this (maybe 2-3 years ago) and I concluded that dbfile was not useable in spools.
