Your telnet client has problems. Or you are using backspace to fix what you are typing... SMTP is a line based protocol but it is not the telnet protocol. SOME telnet implementation works to simulate SMTP conversation, other telnet implementations could have problems. Furthermore, if you pasted the exact error you got from your SMTP server then keep in mind that the above one is not an error written by JAMES. JAMES never write a similar message.
