Unfortunately, the POP3 protocol does not support marking messages as
"seen", whereas the IMAP protocol does.

fetchmail can be configured to use either protocol, but if your mail
provider does not support IMAP, I'm afraid you are out of luck!

fetchmail could be modified to optionally maintain a configurable sized
cache of "seen" message ids enabling IMAP's "seen" behaviour to be emulated
to some extent when using the POP3 protocol. If anyone has the itch, please
post to server-dev.
