I remember also having such errors in my eclipse...
but I don't remember which OS (linux or mac osx), JDK( 1.6. or 1.7),
Eclipse (3.x or 4.x) nor m2eclipse.
Definitively an env issue.
Btw, 3.0-beta1 is quite old, why don't you try 3.0-beta4?
