To be specific,
We're looking for help creating metadata, declarative contracts vs.
application-specific contracts (CORBA has plenty of those). Anyone with
guidance on how to create an uber Service contract? Jini is an
interesting model, but I'm not sure how to translate that to Service
contracts in an SOA specifically.
Don't want to get into (another) debate about Jini here, but I want to
focus the answers a bit more specifically on the problem at hand.

The RIO project at http://rio.jini.org,
was initiated out of a request by the military for such stringent
requirements
out of a dynamic environment. It provides QOS based deployment,
migration of services and management services. It
utilizes XML to configure the system to specify a cybernode's
capabilities to accept a particular service and other
things.
If you are not familar with this project, it's been around for many
years, and has been utilized in many different types
of applications.
One of the hardest things to learn about Jini, is, who is using it. If
you've learned to use Jini, you've probably
discovered how simple the concepts and software are to use and deploy.
This simple knowledge and small effort has a
huge ROI. Many people don't talk about using Jini because they
consider it a competative advantage and do not want
their competitors to know how they are out performming everyone. Some
have revealed their use of Jini, and you can find
references to their experiences on the web.
http://ajitsagar.javadevelopersjournal.com/jini_and_soa.htm
has some interesting threads of thought that might shed some
light on some of the places where Jini can be found. Of course, you
can also just search for "Jini SOA" on google and
get a large number of returns to look at.
