Touche re self-publicity Gervas :-)  - but this isn't, is it?  Sending such a message just creates a negative impression of the sender, and there's not enough in "Please contact me out of band.  Perhaps I can help." to provoke any kind of response from the group.  So I can't see what good it does any of us!

I'm only making an argument for what us old-timers used to call netiquette, and I'm not the first in this group to do so re JP Morgenthal.  If you want to contact a group member individually, Yahoo Groups (like most Web collaboration systems) lets you send them a personal message - in fact, unlike some, Yahoo Groups even displays our individual emails in the members list.

Keith,

As you know I am a reasonably liberal moderator, even to the extent
of permitting a certain amount of self-publicity by certain other
contributors!!

You might feel that JP Morgenthal could merely have contated the
enquirer directly - I am not sure to what extent this Group´s
management system makes this possible. However, the topic itself is
not irrelevant, and the message might even provoke a positive
response from others...

Gervas, may I ask you as moderator why messages such as the one

below

are allowed through to the group? It's like the one JP sent to Ron

a

while back, "I have what you're looking for. Contact me offline to
discuss."

To me, they add less than nothing to the forum.
