Naren, just about every enterprise has database systems that "talk to 
each other" in a variety of ways: legacy mainframe systems with SOA 
front ends, data warehouses that import data from other sources via ETL, 
ERP package modules that exchange transactional data, LDAP directories 
that serve a multitude of systems requiring single sign-on, and too many 
more to list.  Hence I think your question is too vague.

However, you should certainly familiarise yourself with XA:
