Team,

I am going to ask you a small favour here, given that you represent a sizeable chunk of the people who shape this industry segment. We are currently looking for trade sponsors (i.e. vendors of products and services in the SOA and Application Architecture space [incl. BPM, Web 2.0 etc.]) for our forthcoming European Conference. I have written a description of the opportunity below.

If you happen to know anyone who would be a suitable candidate for taking or influencing decisions on such matters, could you either please pass the description below on or ask them to contact me at gervas POINT douglas AT soa-conference POINT com .

BTW, should you have any suggestions about conference format and themes or be interested in presenting in a paper or participating in some way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks in advance for your trouble,

Gervas

European SOA & Application Architecture Conference 2007

Sponsorship Opportunities

The Conference

What Makes this Conference Special:

Apart from being about a very pertinent Strategic IT and Enterprise Architecture theme, this Conference stands out for two reasons that make it a unique event:

  • It is as much concerned with the Business Aspects of SOA and its associated architectural themes as with the fast-evolving Technical Factors;
  • All the Conference Participants, whose work and organisations are affected at a strategic business and technical level by the Conference themes, will have the opportunity to work together at this Interactive Event to advance the technologies and their application so as to maximise their Technical and Business Benefits.

Objectives

The European SOA & Application Architecture Conference 2007’s principal objective is to provide an interactive forum to bring together end-users and various experts and vendors in the field to define the direction of SOA and Application Architecture in Europe for 2007 and beyond.

The Conference will be examining the direction of SOA and Application Architecture not only in terms of Technical Developments and Requirements, but also in terms of Business Requirements, Opportunities and Benefits. It will aim to study the best way that developments in SOA and Application Architecture can help to fulfil these strategic business factors.

Venue & Dates
The Conference will be held at the new Andorra Congrés Centre in Ordino, Andorra. It is planned to hold it from the 23rd to the 25th January 2007 inclusive, although we may move it a week due to a clash with OOP 2007 in Munich (this is a big event with 1200 software techies).

As the Conference is being held in the middle of the skiing season, there will be made available to delegates an optional winter sports long weekend package.

Participants

The conference will benefit all participants, both business and technical, whose planning/decision-making roles give them a significant stake in organisations’ systems regarding SOA and the other aspects of Application Architectures.

v      Employees of end-user organisations

Ø      Senior IT staff

Ø      Senior Business personnel

v      IT Industry analysts

v      Technical experts/gurus including leaders actively involved in standards

v      Relevant Vendors.

Event Format

This will be a truly Interactive Event bringing together all those with a stake in Application Architecture and the strategic impact that it has on business factors.  This is not going to be another boring, passive conference – everyone will have the opportunity to get together with others to work out where SOA and Application Architecture should be heading over the coming year, in ways which will directly affect their work and organisations.

As well as presentations by industry experts and end-users, you will have the opportunity to take part in and witness:

Debates
For example, WS vs. REST

Workshops
These are normally mostly technical, but we could have some for business users as well.

Expert panel discussion groups
This would be an opportunity to take certain pertinent themes further and thrash out the issues. All sorts of attendees could interact at these sessions and hopefully the experts on the panel would learn from others as well, for instance users' concerns and experiences.

Main Conference Presentations

Some traditional-style presentations, in such categories as technical, strategic positioning, techno-commercial, business, needs, benefits and issues, case studies (e.g. the Amazon system) etc.  We would try and ensure that these were interesting enough to inspire Q&A sessions.

Sponsors will have the opportunity of having slots to do such presentations, relevant of course to the Conference Themes. Any such presentation should not constitute just a blatant selling pitch.

Vendor presentations
These presentations would be organised and run by the respective vendors in side rooms. In principle any vendor whose offering was relevant to the Conference’s themes would be eligible to purchase a slot.

Preference would naturally be given to Conference Sponsors.

Exhibition

There will be a small exhibition area available for the stands/booths of vendors and other relevant exhibitors.

Preference would naturally be given to Conference Sponsors.

Other Facilities

Meeting rooms will be made available to interested parties such as vendors (preference being given to Sponsors). An Introduction Service will also be set up to allow conference attendees to arrange in advance of the Conference to meet other participants during the Event.

Conference Themes

It is impossible to predict accurately what will be the precise topics that will be relevant to such a conference many months in advance. So as an exercise, let us assume that the Conference is taking place next month. What would be the relevant themes? Here are a few salient examples:

Broad Categories:

For example: SOA, BPM, Composite Apps., Web 2.0/mashups, Middleware, Security in SOA, SOA & Process Adaptability, SOA & Business Agility, IT-Business Alignment.

Topical Subjects:

For example: SOA Governance, REST, Web Services, other SOA technologies, e.g. ESBs, Jini, CORBA etc.,

Sponsor Types

Most Sponsors will be industry sponsors, i.e. vendors of relevant products and services. We are negotiating with a local bank to be the Main National Sponsor, but this will obviously not introduce any element of competition, advertising display space apart, with industry sponsors.

We foresee Industry Sponsors being divided into the following categories, with some vendors belonging to more than one category:

  • Major Vendors of Infrastructural & SOA Software (e.g. IBM, BEA, Oracle)
  • Major Global Providers of SOA & Major Project Implementation Services (e.g. Capgemini, IBM Global Services, Accenture, EDS)
  • Major Regional Providers of SOA & Major Project Implementation Services (e.g. Atos Origin, TietoEnator, Indra)
  • Specialist SOA Software Vendors (e.g. Sonic Software, Infravio, IONA, TIBCO)

Sponsor Requirements Benefits & Costs

As with most sponsorships, the main benefits relate to hard-to-quantify market awareness and publicity. In addition, the Sponsors will have preferential access to certain Event Facilities, either at favourable rates or included in the sponsorship price. These would include:

·         Speaker Slots

·         Vendor Presentation Bookings

·         Exhibition Stands

·         Meeting Rooms

  • Press Briefings

In principle we see the benefit of using the stratification model of sponsorship where one has the usual Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze grades. However, because this event will be innovative and offer unique benefits to all the participants and stakeholders, we feel it would be more productive for all concerned if we were to work with each prospective sponsor so as to tailor the offering precisely to their needs and budget.
