Stefen,
ESB doesn't require using different protocols. I could use an ESB to
service-enable each technology you've mentioned. In other words,
ESB may be used as the "some product" you've mentioned.
I think it's a matter of deciding on how to use an ESB (e.g. using
multiple protocols or a single protocol) and selecting an ESB that
has adapters for the the required technologies.
