I'm interested in hearing what tools other teams may be using - and what lessons they may have learned in developing semantic models and enterprise ontologies.
I have found the following references that may be of interst to those who are interested in pursuing an enterprise ontology: http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/project/enterprise/enterprise/ontology.html <http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/project/enterprise/enterprise/ontology.html> http://www-ksl-svc.stanford.edu:5915/FRAME-EDITOR/UID-26&sid=ANONYMOUS&u\ ser-id=ALIEN <http://www-ksl-svc.stanford.edu:5915/FRAME-EDITOR/UID-26&sid=ANONYMOUS&\ user-id=ALIEN> The Enterprise Ontology - about 90 terms worked on by a group including industry and academia along with some experts in British Standards. This is also formalised in KIF and available via the Stanford Ontolingua server. It has 5 main content areas for organisation, agents, activity, time (based on Allen's temporal relations) Another possible enterprise ontology reference that may be of interest is gist: the minimalist upper ontology (http://gist-ont.com/ <http://gist-ont.com/> ) It seems to me that a consequence of adopting an enterprise ontology is the potentially significant performance overhead needed to perform the necessary additional XML transformations to normalize the schema before putting on the ESB. Finally, what tools are others using to perform XML Schema transformations at run-time? Two vendor tools that I have looked at recently include: http://www.contivo.com/products/products.html <http://www.contivo.com/products/products.html> and http://www.altova.com/products/missionkit/software_architect_tools.html <http://www.altova.com/products/missionkit/software_architect_tools.html\ > The following resources may also be of interest: OASIS Universal Business Language (UBL) Naming and Design Rules http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/10323/cd-UBL-NDR-1.0Re\ v1c.pdf <http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/10323/cd-UBL-NDR-1.0R\ ev1c.pdf> OASIS Universal Business Language (UBL) http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/os-UBL-2.0/UBL-2.0.html <http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/os-UBL-2.0/UBL-2.0.html> Stanford: Library of Ontologies http://www-ksl-svc.stanford.edu:5915/FRAME-EDITOR/UID-1&sid=ANONYMOUS&us\ er-id=ALIEN <http://www-ksl-svc.stanford.edu:5915/FRAME-EDITOR/UID-1&sid=ANONYMOUS&u\ ser-id=ALIEN> Kelvin Meeks [EMAIL PROTECTED]
