<<Looking for SOA management tools? HP updated its offerings last
week, but the result still lags behind AmberPoint SOA Management
System and Progress Actional for SOA Operations, Burton Group research
director and SOA expert Anne Thomas Manes told internetnews.com:
"HP SOA Manager wasn't really comparable to the other management
systems out there. It had very limited visibility capabilities, but is
now getting closer to what AmberPoint and Progress Actional provide."
InfoWorld offered a round-up of the upgrades, which will be an
extension to HP Business Availability for SOA. HP Service Test and HP
Service Test Management were updated to increase support for quality
assurance teams and expand support for SOAP over Java Message Service,
WS-Addressing and SAML.
SOA Policy Enforcer which InfoWorld notes is a repackaging of HP SOA
Manager is used to enforce technical and business requirements and
will now feed performance data into Diagnostics for SOA for analysis.
Manes took issue with the fact HP SOA Manager's functionalities have
been divided into two products. She noted the AmberPoint and Progress
Actional offerings can provide diagnostic and visibility components,
define runtime, security and other policies, according to Manes.
On a more positive note, Manes did add that HP Diagnostics for SOA
should "integrate nicely" with Mercury or HP OpenView.
Dana Gardner at ZDNet seemed more impressed with HP's offering. He
pointed out that SOA governance is a separate issue from performance
management. Governance, he pointed out, helps define the "best ways
that services can and should be used" and provide policies and
guidance for using services. But performance still matters, he continued:
"In the best of all worlds, these functions relate well and can be
managed and refined in unison, a vision that HP is obviously embracing
with today's announcements."
The updated solutions should be available by June.>>
