I would say we're talking about data-oriented services.  Regardless of 
what we call them, the real question is, do entity services (and more 
broadly, data services) play a legitimate role in an SOA?  My opinion 
is an emphatic "yes".

I think you have to draw boundaries somewhere.  Any IT component is 
providing some service, at least in the mind of its creator.  I think 
a UI can be developed using service orientation (UI events trigging 
service calls, for example), but I would not call the UI itself a 
service.
