Web service is just one of the technology that may be used to
implement a service.

Using money to illustrate the point of this and about the value of
technology, US dollar is just one of the currency that may be used to
as a medium of exchange. A US dollar is actually just a piece of
paper. What gives value to a US dollar is the ageement by many parties
that it can be exchanged with something that actually provides value
to the person who own the dollar. That is, the value of the dollar is
not in the dollar itself ( to most people), but in the item that it
can be exchanged with. A US dollar is just one of the medium of
exchange that may be used to obtain something of a real value.

Likewise, a web service is just a technology that may be used to
implement a service. A service by itself does not hold any value. The
value of a service is in the capability that it may provide real world
effect that is of a value to the person using it. :-)
