Note that the `\s` escape sequence denotes a SPACE character (U+0020) and not a
BACKSPACE character as stated in the description. Thus the regex might actually
match the relevant line in the example from @kevinjwalls' comment:
# cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
|/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-coredump %P %u %g %s %t %c %h %d %F
if the character following `-coredump` is a space character.
Of course this is moot if the decision is to remove this stuff entirely... but
it appears that the original code might have worked, at least in some cases.
That might resolve the "How could this ever have worked?!?" mystery.
