ABSTRACT
The evening will begin with a presentation by Herb Schildt,
author of such books as Java 2: The Complete Reference.
Herb will discuss issues in programming languages and
computing with a special focus on how we are dealing
with ever increasing complexity in the demands of software.
For example, garbage collection is designed to make it
easier to program. However, in Java, the time garbage
collection will be invoked is not determined. In
trying to make things simpler, have we made them more
complex?
Afterwards, we will have a panel discussion with
Herb, Al Stevens, and Marian Corcoran on programming
issues in Java and C++.
