Hi,
You can make files named with .txs extention to be associated as excel,
by configuring winXX ..
then your servlet should be seen as "http://../sometable.txs"
urls by browsers, so their response data will be saved in files with that
specific extention.
----------------------------------------------
It is easy to generate a plain text table, with one row on each line,
and TAB separated columns - a format accepted by Excel as "tabular".
You may try extra tricks, like using your own-declared ContentType
and configure user's browser to automagically
load table in Excel window when the servlet sends database-generated tables.
For "real" Excel spreadsheets generated from servlet code you'll need
not only to know their specific Excel format, but also Microsoft's
agreement - not sure about that, read their license agreements..

Not really, the servlet needs to send the table as an spreadsheet format
file, wich can't be converted (browsers save files unchanged).
