i'm a newbie also, started yesterday using jigsaw, jdk1.2 and servlet api
2.1.1. and hunter & crawfords book.

i needed to do the following:

to run jigsaw: set CLASSPATH=d:\java\Jigsaw\classes\jigsaw.zip;%CLASSPATH%
to run the admin tool: set
CLASSPATH=d:\java\Jigsaw\classes\jigadmin.jar;%CLASSPATH%
to compile the servlet: set
CLASSPATH=d:\java\servletapi2_1_1-win\servlet.jar;%CLASSPATH%
