Hi Martin,

It's a messy solution, as you'll have to guess the character enconding.  But try this, 
at least for POST:

InputStreamReader in =
        new InputStreamReader(response.getInputStream(),
                              "your-desired-encoding");

Now, the reader is localized;  hope it helps.
