hi jack -
this need is predominately what most of the new
servlet 2.2 (http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/2.2)
specification is all about. in addition, the
servlet 2.2 spec is adhering to the j2ee specification
(which i don't have a handy link to) so you might
want to check into j2ee (java 2 enterprise edition)
as well.
perhaps you could give this a run through to see
if it addresses your concerns.
