LDAP would not be a universal solution, but it MIGHT be a possibility.

I agree, I've done several things (vrfy, expn, structure
check etc), but the
fact remains that email as it is setup within unix, and
defined on the net
is not able to guarantee a check. It is store and forward,
just like moms
and AQueues ... you are just plain out-of-luck.
You could say you were unable to verify the email address
and ask if they
want to send it anyways, it might catch a few typos ... o r
n ot.
