Mark:

Yes, what you describe is possible - exactly the best way to go about it of
course depends, but I've done very basic load-balancing by simply having a
servlet that determines which system to redirect by number of hits recently
on each server, then redirects the request to the least busy system. Of
course, there are many more sophisticated approaches, particularly with more
advanced app servers - but I was trying to do it before they were invented,
so I can say the basic approach certainly works!

Hope that's of some help

Subject: Servlet Engines on more than one server?

Hi all,

Does anybody know if it possible to scale a Servlet Application installation
by adding another server? Is it possible to install Servlet Application
Servers (e.g. IBM WebSphere) on three or four machines, and these used by
one Web Server?

Is anybody doing this kind of thing already?

Thanks for any insights/info,
