[massaged copy of a relevant jsp-interest posting]

Dear Servlet Enthusiasts,

For many of you who know this and many others who don't, we have made
our reference implementation for JSP1.1 and Servlet 2.2 *open source*
under the code-name "Tomcat", under the Apache umbrella. Please visit
http://jakarta.apache.org for more information. The bits are available
for download from that site. There are three components:

1) jakarta-tomcat:
This is the commercial-quility implementation of JSP 1.1
and Servlet 2.2 technologies.
2) jakarta-tools:
ant - Ant is a tool for building workspaces (similar to
"make") written in Java.
moo - Moo is a micro test harness which is used by tests.
3)jakarta-watchdog:
These are the API validation tests for JSP 1.1 and Servlet
2.2 APIs.

This is the moment we have all been waiting for. Being Open Source not
only means better implementations, but it is also a faster way of
learning technologies and adopting them. You can learn more about JSPs
and Servlets and also contribute significantly by adding new features,
by doing performance improvements or by fixing bugs.

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and download the bits!!!

Cheers,

James
