Depends on what Servlet engine you're using and where your servlet is kept.
In JavaWebServer, for instance, if you put your servlet in the "servlets"
directory, it'll be re-loaded if the server detects the newer version. If
you put the servlet in the "classes" directory however, the servlet is
loaded when JavaWebServer starts and you'd have to restart the server to
reload the servlet.

I've used both JavaWebServer and Apache with JServ, and the latter re-loads
my servlets when I change them.

You may just need to do a restart on your server
