You can serialize Java objects over HTTP.
Look at ObjectOutputStream.

As the Microsoft trial transcripts indicate, they are (or were) trying
*very* to cripple Java.
In the end I don't think Microsoft can control the future any more than
IBM could (when Microsoft was the upstart). They *can* cause everyone a
lot of grief in the meantime.
