Yes, IIS needs some software installed to run the servlets, and this
determines where the servlets are stored. For example, I am using IBM's
Websphere in conjunction with IIS. When one installs Websphere, it asks
what server(s) you will be using it with, and installs the necessary
plugins for it. You end up with a Websphere directory, separate from the
IIS directories, in which there is a Servlets directory where you put your
servlet classes.
