FWIW, we've been using Oracle's thin drivers for 8.0.4 for over a year
with no problems at all. This is on Solaris, not that it should matter.

I think a blanket statement that the drivers suck is a bit over the top;
maybe for a particular application or style of usage it's true, but not
in
general.
